The Kid’s Drysuit Package is recommended from Fall to Spring for children or slender adults shorter than 5’2”. Since water levels are much deeper on children, a full suit is necessary A tight rubber gasket in the ankle of the bibs keeps all water out, allowing hikers to wear regular hiking clothes and insulating layers underneath. Feet will get wet but will be kept warm by the neoprene socks which insulate and cause much fewer blisters than a regular wet sock. The canyoneering boots provide unmatched grip on wet and dry rock and provide necessary ankle support. The wooden hiking stick is ideal for balance and stability and hold up much better than regular trekking poles in the Narrows.
Not sure which gear to rent? Adjustments can be made upon arrival if needed. Reservations are optional. We keep plenty of equipment in stock in order to accommodate all walk-in customers.
Narrows equipment can be picked up either the morning of your hike or the evening prior after 4pm.
We recommend picking up dry equipment wearing the clothing you plan to hike in. Trying on the dry equipment and boots is necessary and it’s much easier to only do it once. This also allows us to ensure that the equipment is being worn properly. Coming the night before allows for an earlier start in the morning, but does require you to put on the equipment twice. Many large groups, especially those with young children find it easiest to just take care of rentals on their way to the trailhead in the morning.
The Dry Bibs are waterproof but they are not necessarily an insulating layer. The material is slightly thicker than that of the dry pants and is completely waterproof. If you tend to get cold easily or are hiking on a cold winter day, wearing 2 lighter layers on your legs is best. The material is not designed to be breathable so if you run warm or plan to hike in moderate conditions a single layer is best. Wear comfortable, water wicking material. A regular pair of hiking pants or tights works great under the Dry Bibs. For your top, we recommend wearing multiple lighter layers that can be shed during your hike as you warm up. Shirts and jackets can be tucked into the bibs to keep them dry. Hats and gloves are recommended on cold days, especially during the morning when temperatures are especially chilly.
Reservations are optional and can be cancelled for a full refund with 24 hour notice. Full refunds will be granted with no advance notice on days deemed unsafe to hike the Narrows.
